GUTSY U19 GIRLS WIN A PLACE IN NATIONALS PLATE FINAL

Our U19 girls produced another gutsy performance at the weekend to secure a place in the Plate Final of the ASA’s National Age Group Championships.
Though they struggled on Sunday against Otter from London and tournament hosts Liverpool – each of whom is widely fancied for a medal finish; they made sure that Saturday belonged to Leeds!
The Born ’98 squad edged past Hucknall in a 2-1 nail biter in which they endured pressure from the much larger and more physical Midlands-based side. They then turned up the heat against Northampton with a 5-2 victory. Both games called for tenacity and steady heads - and involved a master class from Leeds’ Team GB junior goalkeeper Sophie Jackson.
Coach Andy Wilson said:
“When we saw the draw we knew it was destined to be a weekend of contrasts, but given that Liverpool and London notched up double digit scores against most of the other teams, the girls are to be credited with a great effort that once again made Leeds proud.”
The U19 girls go to Manchester on Saturday April 23 to battle it out for Plate honours.
